Kannada Hindu Matrimony

This page is for Kannada-speaking Hindu families, in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi–Dharwad, coastal and northern Karnataka and outside the state, who are looking for a bride or groom. It explains the customs that usually shape the search and how to describe them on a free profile.

The search in Kannada-speaking families

Kannada families often start with the jataka (horoscope) and family background, and elders on both sides are closely involved. After a first meeting goes well, the families hold the nischitartha, the formal engagement, at which the wedding is agreed and often the date is set.

Karnataka's regions differ noticeably. Families from Mysuru and the old Mysore area, from north Karnataka around Hubballi, Belagavi and Kalaburagi, and from the coast around Mangaluru and Udupi can have different customs, food and dialects, and coastal families may speak Tulu or Konkani at home alongside Kannada. Mentioning your native place helps other families understand your background.

Jataka, gotra and kuja dosha

Matching the jataka is common, and kuja dosha (manglik) is usually checked. Marriage within the same gotra is generally avoided. In Brahmin families, sub-sects such as Smartha and Madhwa, and the family's matha, can matter as well; in other communities, the family's caste and native place often carry more weight than gotra.

Some Kannada Brahmin weddings include the 'Kashi yatre', a light-hearted ritual in which the groom sets off for Kashi as an ascetic and the bride's father persuades him to marry instead.

Searching for a Kannada match on this site

Type 'Kannada' in the mother tongue filter and combine it with state (Karnataka) or a family city. If your family is from the coast and speaks Tulu or Konkani, it is worth searching for those mother tongues too, since families describe themselves differently.

Bengaluru is also home to families from many other states, so if you are open to a non-Kannada partner, say so in your introduction or partner preferences. If horoscope matching matters to you, add your star, rashi and manglik status; when both profiles have star and rashi, a guna compatibility score appears.
