Telugu Hindu Matrimony
This page is for Telugu-speaking Hindu families from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and the wider diaspora who are searching for a life partner. It covers the customs that usually come up in a Telugu alliance and how to reflect them on a free profile.
Telugu alliances: who is involved
A Telugu alliance is very often arranged with active involvement from parents and elders, and relatives frequently pass on proposals they have heard about. After the families exchange details, a 'pelli choopulu' meeting is arranged, where the prospective bride and groom and their families meet, traditionally at the bride's home.
Telugu families now live across Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati and Warangal, in Bengaluru and Chennai, and in many cities in the United States. If one of you works abroad on a visa, mention it, along with your plans; families usually want to know this early.
Gotram, nakshatram and muhurtham
Most Telugu Hindu communities avoid marriage between people of the same gotram, so gotram is one of the first details families ask for. The nakshatram (birth star) and rasi are used for horoscope matching, and kuja dosham, the Telugu name for manglik, is commonly checked.
The wedding date and time, the muhurtham, are fixed by a priest from the couple's horoscopes. At the wedding, the couple place a paste of cumin and jaggery (jeelakarra bellam) on each other's heads at the muhurtham, and the talambralu ritual of showering rice follows.
Community and sub-caste
Community and sub-caste remain important to many Telugu families, and the same community name can cover several sub-groups with their own preferences. Fill in the community, sub-caste and gotram fields if they matter to you, and leave them blank if you are open.
Searching for a Telugu match on this site
Use 'Telugu' in the mother tongue filter, and filter by state (Andhra Pradesh or Telangana) or family city if location matters. Because many profiles list a work city different from the family's home town, read both before deciding.
If your family follows horoscope matching, add your star, rasi and manglik status. The site shows a 36-point guna score when both profiles have star and rasi; your family priest can then check the full horoscope once you are connected and contact details are shared with both sides' consent.
How TheHinduMatrimony.com works
Creating a profile, browsing, shortlisting and sending interests are free. You can create a profile for yourself or on behalf of a son, daughter, sibling or relative.
When someone accepts your interest you become connected. Connected members can talk privately, and phone numbers and family details are exchanged only when both people agree to share them.
You can block or report any profile at any time, and blocked members can no longer see you, send you interests or message you.
